Merlot and Malbec take center stage for the first time in the 2009 Claret. Dark purple in color, aromas of blackberry, plum, and graphite escape for the glass. A fresh beam of minerality supports the rich mid-palate while a frame-work of silky tannins, mocha, and boysenberry linger in the finish.Aromas of boysenberry, plum and cassis entice the nose, easing into mandarin and molasses with a hint of cacao. This medium-bodied wine has balanced acidity and soft tannins, displaying soft ripe fruits dominated by cherry coulis. From a simple capellini to a roasted pork loin, the soft elegance of this wine allows for a variety of food pairings.
